working on the doll quilt

It is really hard to make something for someone you don't know with limited information and you can't contact them because it is suppose to be a secret. I've decided to go with something that represents me and something that I would love to recieve. I hope my partner likes it.

Vacation spot at home

The girls and Steve feeding the geese

We had a great time over at Steve's. Rosemary made the best dinner- grilled chicken, beans, potaoe salad, fruit, cole slaw- all yum. This house is about a 30 minute drive from where we are and you wouldn't think that in the mist of all these people and city there would be a little spot like this plunked in the middle of it. For the first 10 minutes I think all I said was "wow a vacation at home". Very relaxing and wonderful. Thank you very much!!!!

Ava Quilt

Quilt top
top and back

quilt back

This is being made for the newest member of the Jarvie family. We don't know when she will arrive as they are adopting her from Ethiopia(sp?). I got to see her nursery a week or so ago and knew I had the perfect fabrics in my stash for a quilt for her crib. I just have to sandwich, baste , quilt and bind and it will be ready to go.

Doll Quilt Swap

I am going to do a Doll Quilt Swap with a group from Flickr. I'm very excited because there are over 100 people who participate and it is a secret. Your partner doesn't know you are making a quilt for her/him and you don't know who you are going to get one from. You can see all the things I like at www.flickr.com/photos/keeperofthequeens/favorites/ . There really isn't much I don't like. I love horses, nature, owls, and birds. I've seen some great building quilts. I love everything that I can't do yet as a quilter. very easy to please. Below are some that made me OHHH and AWWW.

A Little Fabric, A Little Chocolate Swap

This is what I got from Shelly at Pink Punk Boutique. It was wrapped in linen and most beautiful. I opened it up and it got better from there. The bird pouch is something she is going to sell in her esty shop. I love it. It is so well made. All the other goodies were icing on the cake! Thank you Shelly.

Day by the Water

Why don't we do this more? It was so relaxing. The girls had friends over and we went to this park. Queen 1 and her friend were trying to rig up a way to fish and made a net with sticks and fishing string they found. Then some girls came down on their bikes with fishing stuff and bacon as bait and were pulling in one little fish after another. Queen 2 and her friend played on the park equipment. On the way out I looked in a tree next to the water and this beautiful owl looked right back at me. Took my breathe away and then he flew off. So big. It was wonderful!!

What I Sent

This is a picture of what I sent to Shelly of Pink Punk Boutique in the July A Little Fabric, A Little Chocolate Swap. This is such a fun swap and what could be better than fabric and chocolate?

Our antique shopping finds

Queen 1 bag- This was the second one she found. The first one was twice the price. A good lesson in shopping and checking everything out.
Queen 2 watch. This kid kills me. She is a old soul for sure and you never know the things she is going to love. Not the run of the mill mall stuff- that is for sure. She was looking for binoculars and skeleton keys, but then saw this watch and had to have it. None of the kid looking watches for her- thank you very much.

My button ring. I love the idea and how it looks, the big fun size and the price was good too.

My First Sale

This week brought my first sale! That was very exciting!
I took the Queens antique shopping today and out to lunch.
Queen 1 got a bag and Queen 2 got a watch. I got a ring made out of buttons. Very Cute. Pictures will come later.
I also started quilting my owl quilt. It is going to take a long time because I'm doing little patterns. It was nice to be with the sewing machine again.
You can go to the store by www.denawaynedesign.etsy.com
I just figured that one out. Very blonde of me I know.
Hope your week has been a good one.

Word to the Wise....

Don't do DC in the summer on a weekend!!!!! We , ok, I, thought that it would be fun to drive into DC and hit a museum or two this Sat. There were no big events that I knew of going on and something fun for the family to do....right? Wrong!!! The drive down was nice no traffic. Don't get me wrong, I knew it was going to be busy. I had no idea it would be that busy! We tried to drive around for an hour to find parking. I say tried to drive because the amount of people trying to cross the intersection, I mean every intersection made this very difficult. People lined up down the street to get into the museum, every one we passed. Ok, mistake, maybe Georgetown won't be so bad? Drive over there and nope, every bit as bad. So get out of the DC area and head home feeling frustrated that we couldn't do something fun for the kiddos and for ourselves.

Yesterday, I skipped church and took the kids to the indoor pool rec center in the next town. they loved the two story slide and we hung out there for two hours until my poor eyes could no longer take the fumes from the pool, lots of chemicals. Took them to Wendy's for lunch- we don't do fast food very often so this was a treat. Came home and I got ready for a "big girls" party. My friend hosted a jewerly party. I met some great women and drank some sangria- 1/2 a glass cause I'm a lite weight. Bought something for the queens for Christmas. I wear two rings and earrings and I never take them off or change them, so nothing for me. Now had it been a fabric party I would have been all over that. Tee Hee. Soulmate made some awesome burgers for dinner and then we watched a bad movie.

The new library opened up in town so I think we are going to do that today. This week is going to be hot. We've been spoiled up til now. I am still thinking about getting to my quilts to put them together, but so far only thinking. Hope you had a good weekend and remember DC on a Sat......Bad idea.

A Owl or Two

I've been drawing and stitching these guys while watching tv with the family. I'm sure this will be the next project down the road.

The girls and I have been enjoying the weather the last few days. In the 80's here. Warm enough to swim but nice for mom who reads by the pool.

I've met a few people....New neighbors moving in and everyone so far has been very nice. I spoke with the lady across the street for about a half an hour. They are pouring the last foundation in our neighborhood and working on the house behind us with filling in the foundation. It is a little loud, but yessterday it didn't feel like we were home much anyway.

Queen 1 had a horseback riding lesson and Queen 2 and I played with all the barn animals. They were barrel racing yesterday.....fun to watch.

Today is my niece's birthday. Happy Birthday Gracie Lou!!!!!

One turned into Two

So, this is the first idea of my owl quilt. Each center has one of the wise owls in it and then I did a log cabin around them. Some ended up being bigger than others because why would I want to use a pattern? or measure? that is just restricting. So I put it together like a puzzle and this is what I got. Now to do the back...... I used all the scraps I had and did strips of 1 inch, 2 inch and 2.5 inch widths. I had one log cabin left over so throw that in too, gather all the fabric I used in the top and this is what you get. I liked it so much that I decided to turn it into another quilt top. So now backs are almost done and then I can sandwich and quilt. Although my sewing time has really taken a hit now that the kiddos are out of school ,so maybe it will get done in this lifetime.

Our Weekend

We saw fireworks two nights in row.
We planted lots of flowers and put mulch in the front yard

Looks so much better.
We had Steve and Rosemary over for dinner and had a great time. I made corn chowder, garlic bread and salad. It was yum, if I do say so myself. Soulmate took us out to dinner on the 4th and we went to Bonefish Grill- also very yum and I didn't have to clean up, which made it even better. We went to church and ran some errands yesterday, made potatoe salad- more yum, and grilled hot dogs. We had a good family weekend. How was yours?
It is my sister's birthday today!!!! Happy Birthday Sister!!! We love you!!

Time at the barn

Queen 1 went on a trail ride
I hung out with Lily and Daisy and loved them up.

Queen 2 was giving love to Playboy
