A Winner/winners and some stuff

Boy- that's blurry. I promise it says Susan and the Soulmate pulled the paper after rolling his eyes and asking me what I was doing. Susan asked to be put in for the fabric and the journal still needed a home so we have 2 winners and the next one he pulled was.......
Jeanne- So email me your addresses and I shall send it off to you as soon as I get them.

Last night prepping for pinwheels with some Moda Sorbret I had laying around. I think this is going to be a practice quilt for me. Love the soft colors of this one and it surprises me because it's not my normal cup of tea.

This is.....Popgarden by Heather Bailey and a whole lot of fun. Played around making these blocks and then started to second guess myself about what I was doing and what I was putting it with. There is an idea blowing around in my head it just wasn't coming to me clearly so I put it away for a bit.

Found a new fabric store and met Dee Roo there. She walks in a gets a job- lucky girl. She is going to have so much fun petting fabric on her working days. That would be "Danger, Danger" for me. I picked up some yummy OZ fabric that I have been drooling over.

I finished a commisioned puppy quilt for a very spoiled little pooch. Friend bought a quilt of mine for her daughter and the dog was taking it over so he needed one of his very own.

I also finished another doll quilt that I was playing with. I still have many birthday gifts to make. Hopefully those will get done in time. no pressure- ha.
What are you working on?

A Blue Giveaway

Jeanne won the notebook and
Susan won the fabric

There were a couple of reasons I started this giveaway series...
one- I will have been blogging for a year in Feb.
two- I am going to reach my 300th post about the same time
three- I wanted to give back to the blogging/flickr community who has been such great inspiration and help to me
So for this one...... We all have "blue" days. If you tell me you don't, I won't believe you. You wake up and the sun isn't shining for ya. whatever. How do you pull yourself out of it? Do you? Or do you just ride the wave. Some days I put myself in time out. Before this turns into a therepy session tell me...... "What do you do when you are blue?" Up for grabs is a ribbon covered journal and no I didn't make it, I wish I did as it is beautiful. I bought it and second a half yard of Freespirit Robyn Pandolph Flirt. Leave a comment and don't forget to "follow" my blog because the BIG 300 post ........it's a coming. Name will be drawn Sunday January 31st and by then I'm sure I'll have lots to share with you. I've blocked out some major sewing time. Wahoo!!! NOW ClOSED

This Past Week

I got Ryan's(I'm just a guy who quilts) owl done and sent to him. I was so focused on getting it out the door I forgot to take a picture of it. So thank you Ryan for the picture. I used fabric on the feathers and moon. Satin stitched the beak and eyes. I liked how he turned out.
For Amy (sewamy) I embroidered this pattern she had on her post showing her theme. She wanted something "Sew Wednesday" This little bird spoke to me, so that's what I did. Both of these embroideries are for the Hoop Up Swap. I have four more to make.

I finished this quilt and named it Bright Joy. I found this fabric in NY when we went for a visit this summer and cut it up into 2 1/2 inche squares and made 12 blocks with them, placing colors to make different patterns. I sashed it in white. It came out to be 40X 52. I thought of it being bigger when I started, but you know how a quilt will tell you the path to go down? This one wanted to be this size. I used the left over blocks I had made for the back. I put it and 2 other quilts in the shop.

I rec'd this fabric Thursday and that night drew this up. The next day knocked out these blocks and am now waiting for more fabric to complete it. So this one is "in the works". I love the rich colors of this one- gray, butter yellow and merlot.

Finally, I got this table runner done for a Feb. birthday present. I can't tell you how many Feb. Birthdays there are. It is almost like Christmas. My hubby, sister, daughter, nana, aunt, and five friends. So there- I did tell you. I forgot ME- I am turning the BIG 40. da da donnnnnn. If I start running around with smoke coming out of my ears -you know why- and please put out the brain fire.

And the winner is......

Midnight Owl Quilt

Front
closer look

back
Another done for 2010. This is Midnight Owl. Focal prints in this quilt are "owl by myself" by Michael Miller. I threw in a few fabrics from my stash to round it out. Colors are black, white, gray and yellow. I put it together like a puzzle- total improv with this one.
I am coming up on one year of sewing. One year of Flickr. One year of blogging. It seems longer than that because of everything I've learned and everyone I've met. Thanks to all of you and be on the look out for a HUGE giveaway.

Hoop Up

I got talked into joining a stitching swap. You know who you are and shall go un-named. I can follow instructions- like "quit linking me to you" Can you feel the love? Anyway, I'm in this group of 7, might be 6, they keep dying off. You come up with a theme and each person stitches something for you within your theme. My theme is trees-artistic trees. This is what I came up with for me. I have several other ideas too, but for now this is a start.
We had a 2 hour delay today. We had an inch of snow last night. I was praying for more, but it was not to be. So I am going to school to work at the door for a couple of hours and then walking the big dog in this freezing weather. Stella loves it so. Her joy almost makes the cold go away. After that a big cup of hot tea to warm up. Whatcha doing today?

Works in Progress

This is a stitching of little red riding hood I did a while back and am playing with. Ideas floating around still. I feel like I'm on overload with all the creative juices flowing in a rush being let loose now that the queens are back in school.
This little beauty will not rotate for me, but you get the idea. This is some great Michael Miller fabric that I got from Hawthorne Threads. I framed it in white and am doing a confetti mish mosh around it.

Blocks are done for Hope of The Block Swap and have been mailed today. My first wonky stars and I liked them.

I'm in!!

I was worried I wouldn't get into this. This is a group from Flickr and the talent of these quilters and the inspiration you get is awesome. It is a secret swap. You know who you are sending to but you don't know who you are going to get yours from. You make a doll size quilt - no bigger than 24x24 and have it shipped by mid March- fun- right? Only 160 quilters this time.

2010

First quilt to be finished in 2010 and many more to come. This one is called "Whim Improv". I used a huge mix of fabrics from many different lines including fabric found at Crate and Barrel of all places.
With this new year I've been doing a lot of reflecting of what brings me joy and here are a couple of things
reading to my daughters at night before bed
listening to the guinea pigs talk as we get ready to feed them
hugs from my husband and kiddos
of course sewing
talking to family and friends on the phone - it's even better when I get to see them face to face
walking with the sun on my face
those are just a few..........What brings you joy?
