Some Owl Inspiration

This is the last thing I should be doing...... I should be cleaning and doing laundry and getting everyone packed, but what am I doing? Sewing! Anything I should be sewing? NO! Not birthday or teacher stuff . I was looking at my fabric and the idea hit and off I go. A owl quilt... how big? I don't know. But I'm loving the blocks and each are getting shashed with brown and white poke a dot fabric.

And a Happy Birthday it was....

Yes a store bought cake- but man was it good. After a corn casserole blowing up in my oven and fighting off this blasted sinus infection (still having chilled sweats) we pulled off the party with special guests - Steve and Rosemary. I wasn't about to push it trying to bake my own cake. She loved it.
She could not get the cards opened fast enough and I love this picture. She got a gift card to Petsmart to buy her and her sister guinea pigs. Yes we are about to have rodents in teh home. Not thrilled but when the kid has studied for 6 months and can tell you anything you ever wanted to know about guinea pigs we bit the bullet. They will come after we get back from CA. We leave this Sunday so when you don't see a post for a while that is why.

Couldn't wait to take it out of the box and try to loose the parts. They were impressed that it came from Italy. Who knew Italy makes the best guinea pig cages.

It's her Birthday!!!!

My first born is 11 years old. How crazy is that? She is modeling her newest and first ever dress made by her mom. That will teach me for taking her in to the fabric shop with me. She is loved a ton!!!! I won't spoiled the birthday surprise but tune back in for more later.....

Happy Mail Day

I received both of my swaps today. The top picture is of my mini quilt swap from Salt Marsh Designs aka Aimee. I love the colors and of course the fact that it is a owl. It is going in the livingroom.
The second picture is of the Fat Quarter Fabric swap I did with 28th Street aka Leslie. The fun part of doing these swaps is meeting people you would never have met otherwise and the gifts are just the icing on the cake.
I hope you are having a good Memorial Day weekend whatever you are doing. We are going to the movies, BBQing dinners, hitting the pool and relaxing in between.

Two color mini I made....

Salt Marsh Designs let me know she received her mini so now I can share. This was a first for me. We had to make a 6 to 12 inch mini and the theme was two colors. I began sketching and knew I wanted to use the green and white fabric I got at Crate and Barrel and came up with Live,Laugh, Love. She is going to put it in her kitchen which is painted apple green. I'm so happy she likes it. I used some fun ribbon as the binding.

New stuff by Me

I met with my ceramic lady and we talked for great length over the cost of having your own kiln and possibly selling my stuff. She even went as far as to offer to train me and then have me buy her out of her business, but I don't know if I'm ready for that one. So after much talk I have things to chew around in my brain. I'd love to hear what you all out there think. What would you pay for a mug like these above? Feedback PLEASE!!!!!!

Meet the beautiful Lily

Her name is Lily but I'm calling her Lily Rose because she needed a middle name. The girls got to get up close and personal with her and she nuzzled them right up exploring them from head to toe. She is growing fast and started nibbling hay yesterday for the first time. Yes, I think we are in love.

Tree by Me

So I figured I needed to put something crafty on the blog. I have been working on something, but I can't show you because that would ruin the surprize for the one getting it. I thought about putting sneak peaks, but no, I'll let her wait. One of my NY sis's got this really cool table runner in a swap and I loved it. It was using one of my favorite fabrics (the tree fabric above) so I drew out this funky tree and stitched it last night. This is going to be the center of whatever I create.

Yesterday

This is Queen1 standing in front of her artwork that has been displayed at our local mall. Hers is the one with the purple backing. I don't know why she is making this funny face other than we couldn't get out of this mall fast enough. We brought her down to perform with her chorus from school. They did about 30 minutes of singing. This was the second time for me to hear it, first for Soulmate and Queen2 was at a friends having a playdate. My Mom radar was going off bigtime. Too many people in the mall. But we got in and out ok and home safely.
These are pictures of the sky and incoming weather. We have only had one tornado warning since we've lived here, but since then, we really keep a eye out when the weather turns. Soulmate and I have been through a earthquake, hurricane, fire and mudslides where we have lived in the past.(3 of those all in southern CA) I could do without the tornado.

1757 Golf Club

This is the new club that has joined Billy Casper Golf. It is near us so we went for a peak.
My handsome family

The practice area. Over 100 spots on this driving range, with more to be built.

Nature at her best. As we left....this beautiful sunset.

One Day old

and still no name with plenty of people throwing their suggestions, including Queen 1's Lou Lou, Ulinda, Eleanor and Rosie. There was a Miley and a Lily in their too. I'm hoping for a flower name because Mom's name is Daisy.

On A Whim

Went to a new place today that was painted pink with black poke-a-dots. How could it be bad, right? It was very cute with treasures in every corner. Again one of those places that you had to really look. More vintage buttons and some trim. The french hen had to come home with me too. She is perfect. The store was called "On A Whim" thus the title.

Gracie Lou Quilt done

Check this one off the list. I finished this this weekend. I worked on my two color mini for the swap I'm doing and just finished that. I think next is the cheerleading bag.

Handsome Playboy

I went to the barn to see the baby, but who could resist this handsome horse in the beautiful field of flowers. He was grazing and I said to him "I sure wish you would pick your head up" So he did. Love him

5Hour old Baby

Isn't she beautiful? She doesn't have a name yet. She came into the world this morning around 6am. All legs and so cute. Both Mama and baby are doing good.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day all you Mothers! I got some funny cards from the family. My favorites were "the cheap ass card" from Queen 2, "it's all about me card" from Queen 1 and the dogs gave me a card that told me Charlie loves me, but loves Soulmate more. Funny! I got coupons that read "stop begging for guinea pigs","clean your room", and another favorite"leave me alone".
The family also got me a pedomiter that took me a while to figure out and hopefully I have set it right. We will see tonight. The squirrel pic is when I took the girls to the park by the potomac and the girls fed him one of their crackers. The baby geese were being protected by mom and dad by I managed to get the one above. Pretty cute.
Happy Mother's Day
Love

Things I saw....

As some of you may or may not know, I have been trying to walk more. I walk a 2.5 mile loop in the neighborhood. Some days I'm "wahoo a walk" and others I'm "hmmmm a walk" Yesterday was a hmmm day. So to make it fun for myself I took my camara and took a few pictures. The pics above are what I saw. Fun huh?
I haven't been posting as much lately because I think I've been doing more. I'm working on quilting Gracie Lou's quilt- my first attempt at free motion quilting. I'm doing one square at a time.
I also signed up to do a 6 to 12 inch mini quilt swap. The theme is "two color". I was sketching last night and think I have come up with something. Big pressure to do a good job. Most of these women and a few men are amazing quilters. Such technique. I'll post that after my partner gets it. Don't want to spoil the surprize.
Everything is good here. It will be great once the construction is done next door. They started banging nails at 6:40 am yesterday. It's a good thing we get up early for school. I came home yesterday to a big hole in my front yard- digging for some utilities. Good thing we didn't seed the grass because it's dirt now. It will all get fixed.
I went out to the barn yesterday to be the cow whisperer. I got to ride two horses to warm them up- Playboy and Squirt. That was a lot of fun. Love the horses!!!!! I went out and checked on Daisy who is still holding onto that baby. I rubbed her belly and told the baby we were waiting. Daisy liked the scratching on her underbelly.
I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend with my family. Happy Mothers Day!!!!!

Bag of Buttons

I found these at a antique mall hidden in a basket behind a picture. They are old or vintage as some say. Some even have the thread still in them when they were snipped off whatever. Lots of character with each and I was so excited to find them. Yippee!!!

Found the blessed darning foot

Makes the free motion quilting so much easier and while I still have a long way to go with this new venture it is definately improved.

Appreciation week

It's teacher appreciation week and I thought I would make bookmarks for the teachers. I have three done so far with 4 more to go. Lots of teachers!!!! It is helping me with my free motion quilting, so the practice is good. The top picture is of my fabric that just came to the door. So very exciting and beautiful. I can't tell you what I'm going to make with it yet, but I'm very excited to have it. 16 fat quarters of gorgeous Marcus Alfresco fabric.

Sneak Peek

I've been reading my sewing machine manual to see how to do free motion quilting. The only part that I am stuck on is how to lower the feeder teeth and nothing in the manual tells me that. Anyone? I'm hoping to get to this on Monday and then I have to figure out some binding.
So projects in the works are the girl quilt, coin piece quilt, bookmarks for the teachers- it's appreciation week, and then I have to figure out end of year gifts. Not to mention Queen 1 has a birthday coming up and I'm praying that the manor isn't home to two guinea pigs after our CA trip although I think it may be- YUCK! Rodents! I keep praying the interest will die, but she is like a dog with a bone.
We had the Jarvie's for dinner last night and I made chicken enchiladas, sweet corn cake, salad and pear cake for dessert. I tweeked some recipes given to me by my cousin and NY neighbor. It all turned out good and everyone was happy so what more could you ask for.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

In the works

The top picture is of some material I put together for a little girls quilt that I'm working on now. The bottom is a picture of completed petal pushers from their jeans that were too short. I cleaned out closets and dropped off the bags to Goodwill and kept these three. Now I don't have to buy shorts this summer. I spent one day and painted up a storm. Bev was very happy to see me walk into the ceramic place with all my goodies. Shadow- the black cocker- gave me the biggest hug and kiss. His arms felt like teddy bear arms- so sweet. I picked up a few more things and will pick up the finished stuff on Sunday. It is amazing how busy these last two months of school get. The girls are studying for SOL'S (that is standard of learning tests not shit out of luck) Queen 1 went on a field trip yesterday to her new middle school and is very excited to go. Now that the school boundary changes have been announced I think she feels like she can make bonds with other friends. I hear her talking about other girls more. Queen 2 had tennis yesterday and she makes me smile, watching her little body hussle for the ball. Her coach was a bit tougher on her than the others, but she didn't seem to mind. "Bring it on" is her mentality.
Hope all is well with everyone and Mom, I'm glad you liked the pictures of Borcz Cabin. I have more to show you.
Love
